Experience of SPX 2017

This was my fifth year tabeling/exhibiting at SPX (Small Press Expo) in Bethesda, Maryland and I had a wonderful time! I met so many amazing people this year and saw so many familiar faces:

  1. As always, I had a blast tabeling with Christine Skelly! Her work is inspired by mythology from various countries, so it has a really mystical feel. skellyscribbles.com
  2. Carlos Vigil was my neighbor again this year (as he was in 2014). He sells funny Baltimore-themed t-shirts as well as comics about a pair of silly aliens. woozleandlorax.bigcartel.com
  3. I had such an amazing time hanging out with Ryan Thompson, his girlfriend Amy, and his brother Ruben last year. So I was super excited to hang out with them again this year!! Ryan creates a beautiful, whimsical webcomic called Fauna Fairestfaunafairest.com
  4. I originally met Travis Horseman at PIX 2016, and have gotten to chat with him at SPX last year and this year. He’s a sweetheart! He’s the writer of a trilogy called Amiculus set during the Roman Empire. amiculusrome.com
  5. It was an absolute pleasure seeing Romey Petite again and meeting Laurel Holden. They’re launching a Kickstarter for an illustrated book called Spiderella next month and I’m really looking forward to it! romeypetite.com and spiderellastory.com
  6. I couldn’t resist buying Song About the Devil by Z Akhmetova. Their illustrations are really beautiful! azakhm.com
  7. Also, I made a new friend!! 🙂 Charles Paul Hoffman is a freelance writer/editor who contributes to websites including Comic Book Resources and Book Riot. charlesphoffman.com

Experience of SPX 2016

12697480_10153542201037669_2883300759674768243_o

As always, SPX (Small Press Expo) was a bit sensory overload, but I had a wonderful time! It was a joy tabling again with Chelsea Carr (momcomic.com) and a new addition Joey Navarra Jr (cargocollective.com/JoeyNavarraJr). I had an amazing time hanging out with the wonderful and talented Ryan Cailean Thompson (faunafairest.com), his girlfriend and his brother; and I can’t wait to read volume one of Ryan’s comic Fauna Fairest! I got to chat a number of times with the kind and interesting Travis Horseman (amiculusrome.com), who I originally met at PIX; and afterwards backed his Amiculus Trilogy on Kickstarter. I had great conversations with the impressive Austin Breed (austinbreed.com) and the gentlemanly Dirk A. Keaton. I was also happy to see a number of my Kickstarter backers from The Poet and the Flea (Volume 1)! So, all in all, a successful expo. 🙂
